CHOR:DÆ Stimmen was born as a space for musical research, listening, and shared responsibility. A project that focuses on sound quality, individual awareness, and collective work.
The name already encapsulates the group’s identity: Chordæ, from Latin, recalls musical strings; Chor, in German, means choir; Stimmen means both “voices” and “tuning”, but also “to be right, to be in place”. A balance between sound and intention, between technique and musical truth.
The choice to combine Latin and German reflects a dual soul: on one hand, the Italian vocal tradition, and on the other, the Central European repertoire, with a particular focus on nineteenth-century Romantic choral music.
CHOR:DÆ Stimmen consists of about 30 young professional singers from all over Piedmont. These are musicians with an academic background, often gained in Conservatories, and with an already consolidated choral experience.
The repertoire of CHOR:DÆ Stimmen lies within the field of chamber choral music, with a specific focus on nineteenth-century German composers, including Schubert, Brahms, and Bruckner. The programs alternate between a cappella pieces and compositions with piano, which is intended not as a simple accompaniment, but as an equal musical element within the ensemble.
The work is based on a conscious and professional approach that recognizes the value of the singers’ time and skills, providing an organized structure from every point of view.
Objectives:
- Create a shared artistic space where even already active musicians can engage with one another in a research context.
- Offer a professionalizing path, acting as a bridge between training and the professional world.
- Build a high-level ensemble dedicated to the most demanding choral repertoire.
CHOR:DÆ Stimmen is a project in the making, born from work, listening, and shared time. A path that centers on the voice as an instrument, but above all as a space for relationship.
